As I suspected, this could easily get out of hand. Let me back up and
restate what I was looking for and why. Since I already have a copy of
the ISO register, I would like to hear about additions to it, even if it
turns out that such additions are not of any interest to me. Indeed, a
great deal of the register is of little interest (from my point of view),
so I really would *not* want to see all the new documents as they appear.
Instead, it would be great if someone who *does* get all those docs
kept a little summary of the register and posted the additions via this
discussion group every now and then. The files mentioned by Keld
Simonsen are actually far more than I was asking for, but I observe that
they haven't been updated since March. Clearly, a great deal of work has
gone into those files, and I wouldn't expect them to be updated very
often -- indeed, anything less than a year old contains news compared
to my copy of the register.
Since I volunteered to post a list of character sets going as far as I
have info, I guess it's time to do just that. I cross-checked the table
of contents of the ISO register against Keld Simonsen's files and added
incomplete entries for the new numbers included in his list. Perhaps
someone can fill in the missing information (and maybe even add further
entries if there are any). The following list is not guaranteed to be
free from typographical errors (as, indeed, neither is the ISO register
itself). It includes all the registered graphical character sets that
have not been withdrawn and indicates the sponsor and source(s) as well
as a name or description and also a cross reference to another registered
set for any set that is supposed to be the right-hand half of a pair. I
will gratefully accept any corrections or additions or suggestions for
improvements in the format. I had hoped that something like this already
existed -- perhaps it does, but there was no hint of it in the discussion
so far. Would it be appropriate for this to be kept in the LISTSERV
archives and updated from time to time?
John
